Preparing the Site for Building

The site consists of two levels:

  • a flat area above, where the Leuna Lechesa Building is situated and
  • a rocky triangular area below, where rondavels can be built in future for small group learning and a hall for larger activities. Because of the vegetation on the lower area, it can also be pleasantly used for out-door studies and meetings.

The site can be reached by car on a dirt road, branching off from the Maseru-by-pass, reaching the site on top. On foot it can be reached from below.

Piped water, electricity and telephone connections are near the site. Water and electricity have been connected by WASA and LEC respectively, but a telephone line still needs to be connected. Town sewerage is not available and also, because the rocks on the site do not allow drainage, it was decided to build EnviroLoo dry toilets.

To prepare for building we constructed a fence, a footpath and equalized the site. Then we contracted Dr Peter Hancock to make the architectural drawings and obtained the Building Permit from the Maseru City Council.
